Manufacturing and Retail join the Digital Employee Card program on a pilot basis until March, raising the number of participating industries to 7. Let’s take a closer look at the latest developments.

According to the latest data, Retail and Manufacturing, which are among the industries with the largest number of employees, have now been included in the Digital Employee Card program on a pilot basis until March. As we already know, the Ergani information system updates accounting offices about the scope of the card system and the changes in the organization of each employee’s working time. Furthermore, those that will not submit the required information in time are clearly at risk of paying the relevant fine. In this sense, the Independent Labor Inspection Authority, in audits performed during this period, has found violations in the application of labor legislation, mainly regarding the declaration of actual working time.

According to ERGANI, the digital card is currently implemented in the following seven categories:

  • All banks in the country (with main Business Activity Code 6419) since 01.07.2022.
  • Supermarkets with more than 250 employees (with main Business Activity Code 4711) since 01.07.2022.
  • Security companies (with main Business Activity Code 801* and 802*) since16.02.2023.
  • Private insurance companies (with Business Activity Code 651*) since 16.02.2023.
  • OSE S.A., ERGOSE, Urban Rail Transport S.A., OSΥ, OASA, Transport Authority of Thessaloniki S.A., OASTH, Attiko Metro, Ktiriakes Ypodomes S.A., Egnatia Odos S.A., EYDAP and ELTA, as well as Hellenic Train and the Hellenic Railway Maintenance Company, since 22.03.2023.
  • Businesses operating in Manufacturing (with main Business Activity Code from 10 to 33, except 19) since 01.01.2024.
  • Businesses operating in Retail (with main Business Activity Code 47) since 01.01.2024.

It should be noted that the Business Activity Code is a code that needs to be declared by every professional and every company, and it should match as closely as possible the actual scope of activity and the image of the company.

If their main Business Activity Code, as registered in TAXIS, is included in the above seven categories, employers are included in the Digital Employee Card system, with all their registered employees, including branches. Finally, it should be noted that there is currently no provision for voluntary participation in the Digital Employee Card system for businesses that are not obligated to do so in the current implementation phase.

Finally, according to the Minister of Labor and Social Security, Mrs. Domna Michailidou, the implementation of the digital card in Manufacturing must consider the developments and European practices in the organization of working time at the beginning of the 21st century, as well as the specificities of each industry, each production line or even each product.
