Enterprise mobility risks and how to deal with them

July 7, 2017

Mobility

It has been observed that businesses adopting an enterprise mobility program, often make the same mistakes. A poorly executed EM program can actually create more problems than it solves, so it is important to prepare a proper plan, before taking the first step.

Below you can find some common mistakes that should be avoided during deployment.

Lack of a roadmap

The first thing to do is to carefully consider the primary goal of the EM program, the results you aim to achieve as well as the end-users’ expectations. If you start the deployment process without having a roadmap on how to achieve your goals, things are bound to become complicated as you proceed.

Inadequate “point solution”

This has to do with a solution that either addresses only one of the issues you’re trying to resolve, or fails to meet all the business issues. While it is understandable that an enterprise mobility program can address a small portion of your business at its initial pilot stage, it will have to be expanded according to your needs as your business evolves. If you choose a solution that has not been developed to support expansion, when this is required, you’ll be limiting your business potential.

Insufficient control

This is a crucial issue that concerns both your business and the developer. Are your apps, or your app store, designed properly and with the required code? Are your apps easy to use, enabling you to monitor their performance and make changes on the fly, if required? These factors should be taken for granted, although they are not sufficient on their own. In any case, you should be able to test the solution you’ve chosen relatively easily, so as to avoid any problems in the long run.

Insufficient strategy

It appears that the lack of a clear strategy is a quite common issue for many businesses. It is also clear that a big percentage of businesses recognized that their mobile strategy is practically the same with (or even less effective than) that of their competitors. So, what should be done? First of all, you should start thinking about the future and truly understand how to make your vision regarding enterprise mobility a reality. While the lack of strategy may not be disastrous at the early stages, it will certainly lead to significant problems as time passes. So, why not avoid them in the first place?

If you follow this advice and keep in mind the common mistakes mentioned above, you will have taken a step to the right direction, as far as the deployment of enterprise mobility solutions is concerned. We would also recommend to not begin this process on your own, unless you have the required experience. Choosing the right vendor, at least for the initial stages, can help you avoid unnecessary risks and deploy an enterprise mobility program that will give your business the necessary boost.
